Memory Mondays Week 6

As it is Valentines day this memory monday I thought i'd share some photos of me and my valentine. Back in June last year Evan Rice, my friend that I worked with was trying to build his portfolio so that he could book more weddings for the following summer so the boy and I volunteered to do a 'couple' shoot. With normally being behind the camera, usually when I get in front of it all I can do is smile, look directly at the camera and do they whole snapshot type thing. Evan did an amazing shoot, and even made me feel relaxed and I kind of forgot he was there sometimes as well. He first took us to a spot he had wanted to photograph outside of Halifax which had a fishing village feel to it, then to two places that I wanted to go, Point Pleasant park which is were we had our first date and to the public gardens which at that time of year was full of colour. If you are in NS and want a photographer for couples, engagements or weddings contact Evan through flickr or facebook.

To post or not to post..

So I'm sitting here wanting to post some more of my photos that I took in Europe and also something to do with love coz, well, we've all heard those two words of what is happening on Monday enough by now so I wont say it again but I'd already posted all of my Europe street love photography a while back but I also had another folder which has a different kind of love, but still a very important one, of a parent and a child.
I've mentioned it before but when starting out my trip in the summer I went to an exhibition at the Tate modern about Voyeurism. I don't know if it was because I had seen that exhibition or just because I always try and see whatever beauty is going on around me that I began to notice a lot of photos cropping up of children by themselves or with their parents. So here was my dilemma was if I should post these photos online or not. I have printed them in my book but that isn't as seen as something like a blog post.

As you can obviously tell I decided that I feel like it is okay for me to post these photos. Street photographers have always taken photos of children and families without consent and even though times have changed with the invention of the internet from the days when street photography was born the ideal is still the same, to create that iconic image that will get you known, for good or for bad. I'm hoping that you will see the beauty in these photos as I do.

Much Love

I've been reading the Much Love blog for awhile now, and in the lead up to Valentines day I thought it fitting to finally do a post in relation to the 'Much love mondays' posts.

When I was really young, I'm talking I can't remember if I was at school or not, on Thursdays my Nan would strap me into my car seat, I feel like I was spoilt in the amount of time I was allowed to use my big foam purple car seat with the terrible material, she would do this while holding her keys in her dentures by the leather key ring. We would go to Sydney on the train, then the bus where I would always want to be the one to press the button first when it was our stop to get off at my great Aunt's house, after our visit with her we would make our way back to Sydney's central station to the lolly shop which hasn't been there for years now. Nan would buy me a small bag of whatever lollies and chocolates I wanted including the conversation hearts. They would keep me quiet all the way home.

Dont put up a fight.. I dont bite..

So yesterday was the day of celebrating love, Valentines day, or as i was thinking, the day of making all the singles remember that they are in fact single and will be alone for the day.
So you start thinking of the past, I've only ever had one 'real' Valentines day, with my first love, where we did all the sterotypical
stuff, we were all over each other all day, got dressed up and went out to an Italian restaurant and I got given a teddy bear and some flowers..
The day ended up not being too bad at all, i woke up to having a box full of my favorite treats and a completely appropriate card. So, determined to not just sit around the house all day by myself i decided to go for a walk, I went to an antique shop where i found some really awesome finds (shall blog about them another day) and went into some art galleries then went and ate the
cupcake i was given while sitting in the park listening to this little toy that plays edelweiss which is my nanas song, and i know no-one would believe it but i could feel her there with me.
So i guess what i learnt was that valentines day is meant for all types of love and friendship.
